Sleep study is an overnight observation of an individual’s sleep. This involves monitoring number of physiological parameters simultaneously like EEG (brain activity), the eye moments (EOG), the chin tone (EMG), breathing (nasal flow), breathing efforts, oxygen level, heart rhythm (ECG).

Home Sleep Testing (HST)

Home Sleep Testing is the most convenient and easy way to diagnose Sleep Apnea

What are different levels (types) of Sleep studies?/ How a Home Sleeping Test Works

When you request a home sleep test, our sleep technicians will provide you with a portable home sleeping test device. This device is strapped to your body before going to sleep.

If a Level 1 Study is called for, a technician will sit at your house for the whole night when the study is being performed. He will monitor your movements, manually coordinate your movements/snoring along with the reading on the machine and help you with the hooking and unhooking process

In a Level 2 Study, the number of hookings are same as a level 1 study but the technician will leave after the hooking and come in the morning to collect the device.

In a Level 3 Study, the sensors on your home sleep testing device will measure: Nasal airflow, Snoring, Body position, Respiratory effort and blood oxygen levels.

Study Type/ Level of Sleep Study Parameters Monitored
Level 1 (Polysomnography) Minimum of 7 parameters to include EEG, EOG, chin EMG, airflow, respiratory effort, oxygen saturations, and ECG. Attended by a Sleep Technician from our www.booksleepstudy.com team
Level 2 Parameters same as Level 1 but unattended by a sleep technician
Level 3 (Polygraphy) Minimum of 4 channels to include ECG/HR, oxygen saturations, 2 channels of respiratory effort or one respiratory effort channel and one airflow channel. Unattended
Level 4 Minimum of 3 channels one of which is airflow or actigraphy, oxygen saturations, and peripheral arterial tone. Unattended.
